The Center for Reproductive Rights, located in New York City, uses the law to advance reproductive freedom as a fundamental right that governments are legally obligated to protect, respect and fulfill. Founded in 1992, we were the first – and are still the only – reproductive rights organization to combine domestic and international legal advocacy. In the U.S., the Center has defined the course of reproductive rights law, including two landmark cases in the Supreme Court. On the international front, the Center is the recognized global leader in using international law to advance reproductive rights.
This Program Associate position is a 1 year grant-funded position; subject to renewal of the grant. This position will focus on network-building, special events planning, as well as providing administrative support to the Director of the Law School Initiative.
Responsibilities include:
o Assisting with building a network of scholars, teachers, and students at law schools. Maintain and expand the LSI contact list.
o Arranging and coordinating conference calls with the LSI partners and coordinating LSI webinars. Maintain strong communication with all parties as needed.
o Assisting with developing events schedule, including substantive and logistical elements, and coordinating with partners to develop different parts of the program. Manage events as they move forward maintaining strong communication with partners.
o Assisting with all aspects of building an event including venue identification, travel and hotel arrangements, and coordination with partner organizations and institutions.
o Drafting and coordinating internal communications and external communications, such as web updates and e-blasts to law faculty.
o Liaising with Communications to update and improve Law school Initiative website.
o Tracking events at law schools with the assistance of the Law School Initiative Director.
o Providing administrative support to the Law School Initiative director with word processing, scheduling meetings, maintaining files, processing check reimbursements and making travel arrangements.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills. Fluency in word processing, Outlook, and use of email; internet research capability; attention to detail; and ability to work collaboratively and under pressure; commitment to reproductive rights and human rights generally. Experience with event planning and travel arrangements is very helpful. Work, educational and/or volunteer experience in reproductive rights and/or human rights issues are preferred.
