Interface Engineer
New York, NY
ARTstor is seeking a full-time Interface Engineer who will develop the interface for a new development initiative at ARTstor. ARTstor is a digital image library of more than one million images used for research and educational purposes at institutions worldwide. The ideal candidate should have strong design skills and thorough knowledge of (X)HTML, CSS, Web standards, and JavaScript. The candidate will be collaborating very closely with the User Experience and Technology teams and must be able to both advise and prototype design ideas. After a design has been chosen the candidate will produce all HTML and CSS required to implement and test the design.
Responsibilities:
• Work with User Experience team to inform the development and plausibility of wireframes and visual designs.
• Develop non-functional prototype models.
• Develop interface for web-enabled applications.
• Translate Photoshop designs into functional interfaces.
• Define and maintain user interface standards, including code that is well documented, clearly formatted, and efficient, runs quickly, and is easy to understand and maintain.
• Work with Senior Engineers to ensure proper connectivity to backend systems.
• Collaborate with QA team to define methods for testing user interfaces.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Have extensive expertise with (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX and related technologies and push the boundaries in what can be designed and built within a browser application.
• Demonstrate experience troubleshooting browser quirks and cross-platform incompatibilities.
• Have working experience with user interface libraries (e.g. Dojo, YUI and EXT-JS libraries).
• Must have completed at least two full development cycles using a known JavaScript framework.
• Have an understanding of visual design and an unwavering attention to design implementation details.
• Possess an ability to effectively work with creative teams to translate visual designs and content into functional interfaces for clients.
• Work independently and in conjunction with a team of senior engineers.
• Experience working with off-site development resources.
• Meet ambitious and aggressive plans with creative and innovative solutions.
• Have clear and concise communication skills.
• Possess a powerful overriding need to make code as simple and elegant as it can be.
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design or Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 2-3 years professional experience working as an engineer implementing Web applications with a focus on creating innovative Web UI solutions.
