Job Description: Controller/Director of Finance



Located at our Norwalk, CT HQ and reporting to the CEO/Executive Director and as a key member of the senior management team and an officer of the corporation, the Controller/Director Of Finance is responsible for the oversight and management of the general financial, investment, information systems, and risk management affairs of the Association. Along with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors, the Controller/Director Of Finance engages in strategic and tactical planning for the Association`s finances and provides direction and leadership for YMCA business operations and strategic initiatives. The Controller/Director Of Finance manages two part-time direct reports and assists with development and implementation of financial management and control policies for the organization.



Duties:



Works directly with the Finance, Investment, Audit and Insurance Committees of the board to build volunteer relationships, develop policies, monitor their implementation and operation and meet the related needs of the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees.

Monitors monthly financial operations, prepares analysis and reports, and gives guidance to operating unit management staff. Works closely with CEO & VP of Operations/VP of HR on issues that affect financial outcome. Prepares specific recommendations for the CEO.

Manages the staff and oversees the operations of the accounting and finance, information systems, and risk management departments.

Reviews, updates, and/or develops internal control systems for the Association and oversees internal audits which check for compliance on a variety of policies and standards, providing recommendations for improvement when necessary.

Oversees and certifies the annual audit along with the IRS Form 990 and meets periodically with the outside auditors.





Manages the investment of short-term operating cash. Manages, with the assistance of the investment committee, the long term investment of endowment and reserve funds.

Evaluates current business models and leads efforts to modify or redesign business models where necessary.

Designs the process and oversees the development of the annual operating budget, including all branch budgets, and all Association Office budgets.



Requirements



• Bachelor`s degree in business, finance or equivalent required

• MBA and Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred

• Ten or more years of experience in accounting and financial management

• Technical accounting skills required; successful audit and budget cycle experience required

• Staff management experience required

• Knowledge of computer systems; preference will be given to candidates who have worked with SGA accounting software and/or CCC (Christensen Computer Company) point-of-sale software packages.

• Knowledge and practical experience in budget development, financial reporting, cash management and investments, business taxes, banking and debt financing instruments

• Knowledge of computer systems.

• Understanding of, and experience with, system selection, new system implementation and project management. Personal computer skills required. Experience with investment management and asset allocation desired.

• Experience with voluntary/non-profit organizations preferred.



Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience. Includes 12% YMCA Retirement Fund, full compliment of health benefits, vacation, personal and sick time off along with a complimentary facility usage.
