As with other parts of the practice the successful candidate will be charged with heading the Structural Engineering Department.
The Engineer, whilst providing the necessary Structural Engineering services for the other in-house departments, he*she will be charged with building the Structural Engineering Department up in its own right by bringing in its own work.
As a result the successful applicant will need, in addition to technical knowledge, the ability to both communicate and promote the service of the practice to, in effect, build a business within the main practice.
Structural Calculations preparation as may be required for design of beams*structures etc.
Structural condition surveys
Ground Investigation [to be able to interpret Ground Investigation trials
(actual ground investigations usually by others)] and advise on foundation
design.
Foundation Design.
Structure Design – e.g. masonry*;steel frame (we do envisage the need for fabrication drawings at this time as these will typically be undertaken by the steel fabricators – but the engineer will be expected to inspect and
advise on such drawings as to their adequacy.
To have a pro-active problem-solving approach.
The ability to work within a team environment.
Good communication skills.
The ability to promote (bring in new work) and build up the Department.
